2008 Show (18th October)

Well, another show is done and dusted!   Huge thank you to all who came and set up the show on Saturday:  Len, Alan, Eric, Barry and Martin did the rings, with  Pat, Maguerite, Gill, Lynda and Sandra all doing the catering and paperwork set ups.  The day ran very smoothly and we thank all the judges, stewards, scoreboarders, stay team and helpers, without all these wonderful people the show just couldn't go on.  We have lots of volunteers from competitors and again thanks are due here.  Nicky (and her boys), Theresa and Marian all came and helped on the day with the Raffle and Stays - well done, great job done!  The stay teams are always 'unsung heroes' of the day, just staring at dogs being still (well hopefully!) for minutes on end.  Thank you all.  Thank you to Sandra for manning the secretary area whilst I went and worked ticket class and looked after my other dogs, you were brilliant!

Congratulations to all our class winners (I have put a list of all those winning and placed on the obedience UK site - link below).  Special well done to Wendy Hagger and Ludo winning Dog Ticket ... and amazingly I (Shirley) won the Bitch Ticket class with Reesa (photos can be seen in our photo gallery and on the link below).

Also at the show we did the Valgrays Border Collie Rescue raffle draw at 1pm (winner gets a painting of their dog by Arlene Phillips).  A nice crowd gathered and Val (from Valgrays) attended whilst Barry Heaton (our Club Chairman) did the draw.  Elaine Cousins was the winning ticket holder, and she was at our show helping in the stay ring .. so it was a brilliant photo opportunity!!!   You can read more about the draw on the Valgrays Website.

Thank you to everyone who contributed to our day.

The Clubs Championship Show

On the third Saturday in October of each year East Grinstead Club run a Championship Obedience Show, attracting entries from all over the Country.

There are normally 20 competition rings ranging from Beginner up to Championship C (where the winner of this class becomes eligible to compete in the Crufts Obedience Championships).

Each ring has a judge, ring steward and scoreboarder (sometimes a scribe, who writes for the judge).  There is a separate stay ring where 'stay stewards' are required.

The show is always in need of helpers on the Friday afternoon set up and also on the actual day itself.

On Saturday help is always needed in these areas:

Early risers to help fill and distribute judges flasks and ring boxes in the morning

People who are 'eagle eyed' to do Stay Stewarding (10am onwards) .. this involves watching up to 6 dogs during the stay exercise and noting times when (if) dogs change position

Scoreboarding a class .. this involves simple math calculations and reasonably neat writing (Judge will give you the marks to write in)

Ring Stewarding a class .. this involves instructing competitors where to turn and halt, and where to do which exercise (Judge will decide on the course required)

Scent decoying is always a difficult job to fill on the day .. this involves being present middle to end of the afternoon, you will be asked to sit in the delegated ring, put your scent on a cloth (new cloth for each dog), which you place in a pre-determined place for each dog.

Please consider helping the Show - don't think you have to do all these tasks - you only need to offer to help with one task - all we ask is that you are RELIABLE.

The more the merrier!

THANK YOU
